The reply starts playing as soon as the first sentence is ready, before the rest has finished, so long answers don't feel long.

You can talk over it. Start speaking any time and the current reply is dropped so it can listen to the new thing. And if the window has been quiet for more than a minute, something is actually wrong: the support page covers the three usual causes.
